David Cowling is taking an Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management with Birmingham City Business School.
David Cowling joined Coventry & Solihull Waste Disposal Company (CSWDC) in 2008 with little experience in the waste industry. He quickly got into his stride and developed a real flare for innovative ways of looking at the waste industry. This led David to reconsider his career goals and make changes in his job direction. There was, however, one obstacle in David’s plan and that was his lack of real management know-how and gaps in his depth of knowledge. It was at this point that he decided to take up a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme in Leadership & Management followed by an ILM Level 5.
David has never looked back and has progressed his job role with promotion to a project manager position. David has great ambitions to go all the way to the top and realises that without further qualifications to go with his growing experience then his advancement may well be blocked or hindered. After completing the ILM Level 5 he plans to move onto a higher education programme with Birmingham City Business School leading to a work-based degree in Leadership & Management Practice.
David is Lead Project Engineer for a ground-breaking project to convert waste into a heat source to benefit Coventry Cathedral, Coventry Library and local Council buildings. “This is an exciting and challenging time at CSWDC and I’m confident that completing the Higher Apprenticeship degree will stand me in excellent stead to play a key role as part of our project team.”
